A Few Words From The Professor
The teaching methods developed and used by Art Matthews are best suited for beginner to intermediate level students in any age group. Advanced students are welcome too, provided a mutual agreement on suggested pedagogy is reached during an initial interview.
Here is a quick synopsis of the Matra Productions Three "R"s Approach to Piano / Music Lessons
Rudiments: Things like learning piano key and staff note names, intervals, scales, chords, music theory and ear training are studied in this arena.
Reading: Reading rhythms and reading pitch are separated and re-synthesized under this umbrella. Rhythmic and melodic dictation may also be included.
Repertoire: Learning to play tunes, songs, etudes by sheet music, memory, and by ear are done here. We'll do music that you suggest too! Bring CDs & mp3s!
