In the same manner that computers and simulators have been and are being used to train today's pilots in flight and aeronautics, computers and keyboards are being used to aid in the training of today's musicians. The Electronic Music Workshop (EMW) is a musical laboratory which consists of various tone generating chips and modules housed inside a laptop computer that is interfaced with a MIDI keyboard. This setup has proved to give children as well as adults an educational experience that is engaging and fun. Some of the technique is based on the old MMO (Music Minus One) records with which one plays along with a phono album. That is a useful and rewarding experience for a few people but for many students who are not yet able to "keep up" with the record's tempo, it is a frustrating experience. With today's MIDI technology there is much more flexibility and fun which allows the student to get the maximum benefit of this kind of practice technique, regardless of their skill level and development. Students will get attention on a one-on-one basis and they will participate in a simulated group experience that can consist of any instrumentation.

In addition to simulated ensemble playing, the Electronic Music Workshop is an invaluable medium which can be used to greatly enhance the study of the following areas of concentration and virtually any aspect of a student's musical endeavor without regard to musical persuasion.
