| All music files appearing in this site were written with and for the Roland Sound Canvas family of sound cards and tone generators. Since Matra's midi files are written in the "general midi" format, they should play back correctly on any "general midi" compatible sound card or sound source. However, the quality of the musical instrument reproduction chips on your sound card will affect how the music sounds during playback of the midi files that reside in our site. Although nearly all factory installed multimedia sound cards are "general midi" compatible, most of them do not carry professional quality musical instrument sound chips on-board. Such cards were produced for various multimedia games which do not require realistic reproductions of musical instruments. Therefore, the fidelity and realistic nature of what these files can sound like will not come through if you have such a sound card installed in your computer. You might hear what sounds like Mickey Mouse playing a kazoo or Schroeder playing a toy piano instead of what should sound like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, or Ahmad Jamal playing their respective instruments. If your computer has either a sound card with "standard" multimedia capabilities or no sound card at all, you might want to email us for a very low cost promotional tape. |
